The app
Quran Echo is an Android Qur’an reader.
The app does not require an account. You can read, listen and keep bookmarks without signing in.
What stays on your device
Your reading position, bookmarks, display settings, and any downloaded translations or audio are stored in the app’s private storage on your phone.
Uninstalling the app removes this data.
What leaves your device
The app connects to the internet to download translations, audio files and their updates.
Bookmarks, reading position and settings stay on your device only. There is no account sign-in or bookmark cloud sync.
The app sends anonymous usage statistics through Firebase Analytics, and when a crash occurs it sends crash stacks and recent diagnostic logs through Firebase Crashlytics. It also reads the Google Play install referrer to learn which store listing or campaign an install came from.
Usage statistics and crash diagnostics
Events record the screen mode (single page, dual page, translation or split view), page type, night mode, whether the interface is in Arabic, orientation lock, overlay and marker settings, the navigation option, and whether bookmarks are highlighted.
Playback events record the reciter’s identifier, whether the recitation is gapless, and whether playback started from a page or a single verse. Translation events record how many translations are shown. Feature events record which feature was opened.
Crashlytics sends diagnostic information only when the app crashes or records an exception, so stability issues can be fixed. That includes crash stacks, device and app version details, and recent logs leading up to the crash.
Firebase is configured with ad storage, ad personalization, advertising ID and SSAID collection disabled. The app does not use an advertising ID.
Notifications
With your permission, the app shows download progress, warns you when audio files are updated, and shows playback controls. Notifications are not used for advertising or marketing.
Storage
On Android 10 and below, if you choose shared external storage for downloads or backups, the app asks for storage permission. On Android 11 and later, downloads stay in the app’s own storage and this permission is not requested.
The app does not read photos, videos, contacts or other private files.
Background playback and downloads
Two foreground services keep recitation playing with the screen off and finish downloads you start. Each shows a notification while it runs. Playback stops when you stop it, and downloads stop when they finish or you cancel them.
Android Auto
The phone app includes Android Auto support. Playback controls appear on the car screen while the phone is connected. No additional data is collected for this.
Permissions
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): show download progress, audio-update warnings, and recitation playback controls.
Storage (WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, Android 10 and below only): save downloads or backups to shared external storage when you choose that location.
Internet and network state (INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE): download content, send anonymous statistics and crash diagnostics, and check whether a network is metered.
Foreground services (FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC): keep recitation playing with the screen off and finish downloads you start.
Wake lock and run at startup (WAKE_LOCK, RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED): keep downloads and playback running, and resume unfinished downloads after a reboot.
Install referrer (com.google.android.finsky.permission.BIND_GET_INSTALL_REFERRER_SERVICE): read the Google Play install source.
Internal broadcasts (com.quran.echo.androidquran.DYNAMIC_RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED_PERMISSION): a signature-level permission added by AndroidX. It lets only this app send its own internal broadcasts and does not access user data.
Permissions the app does not request
The release package does not declare location, camera, microphone, contacts, SMS, phone, calendar, Bluetooth, body sensors, photos and videos, all files access, query-all-packages, system alert window, exact alarms or in-app billing.
Children
Quran Echo is intended for a general audience. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
This policy may change as the app changes. The date at the top of the page is updated when it does.
